Suicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10-34. If you are thinking about suicide, STOP, and call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. There are several major risk factors for suicide including:

  1. A prior attempt at suicide
  2. A mental health disability such as major depression or bipolar depression
  3. Substance abuse
  4. Medical illness or disability
  5. Access to lethal weapons
  6. Social isolation
  7. Family history of suicide
  8. Family history of violence or sexual abuse
  9. Lack of access to psychological treatment
  10. Imprisonment
  11. Unemployment
  12. LGBT status
